Outstanding novel, spanning almost 200 years and covering the lives of the title character and her descendants.
It's somewhat depressing, however, since it covers the Cherokee Removal, the aftermath that led to the Nation being divided over the Civil War, then chronicles the continuing saga of broken treaty after broken treaty, leading eventually to the Battle of the Little Bighorn and the massacre at Wounded Knee.
