There are several significant points about this book that make if a very good read. The first is the publication date of 2006 and the author's belief that by the year 2038 America will elect it's first African-American president, but we all know that happens a short two years later in 2008. Another point is race relations have disentigrated so badly that we need the help of an alien race to make things better. She does offer hope that there will always be people of all races willing to work together to solve a common problem and that willingness of cooperation is a unique human condition that defies race and gender. The final point is the author's insight into interracial relationships. She does a very nice job exploring the inner struggle with our to heros and their attration to each other. With all this said I like this book. The part of me that always see good likes that the writer looks for it in the darkest situation, but the realist part of me appreciates that the writer isn't out to paint a unrealist picture of the future as a utopia. There will alway be good, bad, indiference, and hope and the author gives us a fair taste of all of them.
