The story of how MaryAnne Parkin, the widow from Richard Paul Evans' "The Christmas Box," met and married business owner David Parkin. In refusing to fire black workers, David incites the anger of some other workers, who set a fire that kills three-year-old Andrea Parkin, David and Mary's daughter. Evans is as usual a lyrical writer, although some of his best descriptions get bogged down in too many words. Also worth reading is "The Letter," the third installment of this trilogy.
