The body of Deanna Brightman was found in her car. A single stab to the heart was the cause of death. As the Deputy Director of Children's Services, she was well liked in the community. Her cellphone was taken, but D.I. Kim Stone is having a hard time believing that this was a robbery gone wrong. When the body of a drug addict turns up with the same precise stab wound, Kim knows they're dealing with the same killer. It's up to her and her team to figure out what these victims have in common.
As Kim and her team work the case, a nemesis from Kim's past is back. Dr. Alex Thorne may be in prison, but she has some unfinished business with Kim. To make matters worse, Kim's mother is going before a board to seek release from the clinic where she has spent the last 20+ years. All of this makes Kim lose focus on the stabbing investigation.
Wow! This is the fifth book in the series and the best yet. The plot keeps jumping between the murder investigation and Alex's plan to take care of Kim once and for all. I'm not sure which part I liked better. Everything plot twist was perfect. The identity of the killer had me totally stumped. I highly recommend this whole series. My rating: 5 Stars.
