I really enjoyed the first 3 books in this series. However, I just couldn't get into this book. Every time I put it down I was a little slower to pick it up, and tended to flip through it rather than read it. At about halfway through the book I just couldn't work up the enthusiasm to pick it up again.

First, the usual crime solving was pushed to the back ground. It was still there, but it had to push through a side plot with a Shay, the usual Guide/Consortium politics, more stuff with the mystery thing in Connor's head (which we're finally making some progress on!), etc. This book definitely seemed to hit the politics harder than the other books, which I think put me off a bit. I don't mind a little politics, but it has to be well seasoned with mystery, adventure or romance, none of which are happening in this book. The other things that's started to annoy me - no one gets along with anyone in this book. Now, it was like that in the previous books as well, but I'm finally starting to get a bit fed up with it.

This book also seems to be heading into darker territory than the previous books. There's very little humor or lightheartedness to even out the police lock down of the Weird, the distrust between the Guild and the Consortium, the Fey and the Humans, The Solitaries and the Dead. It just got to be a bit too much for me. I probably won't read the next book.
