This novel is terrific! It is the intro to FAIR IS THE ROSE (see below), which was also wonderful. The author has done her research and knows the streets, real people and social squabbles of New York City.

Alana Van Alen is a treasure of the Knickerbockers of New York. However, she, along with the other Four Hundred (the elite of New York), missed Mara Sheridan's debut and Trevor Sheridan (her older brother) is out for blood. He proceeds to ruin each of the people who intentionally missed Mara's party. However, Alana did not miss it intentionally; her uncle locked her in her bedroom so she could not attend. The Four Hundred do not want the Irish to join their elite community. Trevor is dedicated to breaking down the doors.

This is a real page-turner. I was so sorry when the book ended. Be sure you have a copy of the second book so you can continue your Van Alen fix.
