This was my first book by Alex Beecroft and my first M/M book EVER. To be honest, I mainly bought it for the delicious looking dark haired guy on the cover.
This book was very well written. The author seems to have done her research and crafted a very intriguing novel detailing life for 18th century English sailors. Moreover, the author does a great job revealing thoughts and opinions of the main characters. If you like your historical romance a little "meatier," then I believe that you will enjoy this book (as did I).

That being said, my personal tastes keep this from being a "keeper" for me.
First of all, I do not like books with heavy violence or torture of any of the main characters. This book includes "severe" torture of both main characters.
Also, I don't like books where the main character sleep with other people. Heck, one of the characters is in love with someone else during a portion of the book.
Finally, it was a little light on the romance for my tastes. While the attraction between the two main characters was frequently discussed, I just didn't feel the romance evolving between the heroes. Also, I didn't really get the feeling that this was a "happily ever after" couple from the book's ending. It's was more of the beginning of a let's see where this goes relationship.
