There's so much to recommend this sweet yet erotic romance. What I don't understand is why so many romance authors ruin it with ridiculous details. And I knew this would be an issue on page 3 of this book when the heroine compares the wealthy rake's upper body to the chests she's seen "at a distance" that belong to the estate workers and calls the workers' bodies "soft."

Excuse me?

Men who do physically labor are NOT soft. The statement is blatantly ridiculous. But I gritted my teeth and tried to ignore it.

But of course there's only so many things you can say about the sex act and it is admittedly difficult to make these scenes feel fresh and original, but when the hero indulges in oral sex and the author repeatedly emphasizes the heroine's reaction to his "rough tongue" I have to roll my eyes. What is he? A cat? This flirts with purple prose, and for me, knocks me out of the waking fantasy.

So in the end, if you like sweet historical romances, which in spite of the erotic scenes (some of which are nicely done) and you can ignore the ridiculous moments, this is a worthwhile read.
