It took me longer to get through this book than other historical romances set in England, as I found it slow paced. The villain is thoroughly nasty and intent on treason and revenge and is the most developed character in the book. The hero didn't seem to have much motivation to come to the aid of the heroine and their romance doesn't intensify until well into the final chapters. The heroine has her own goals after being shunned by society when found in a compromising position with the villain, but that goal is never clearly defined, again, until well into the final chapters. Just not one of my favorite reads.
