This book continues the story of Pell and Lucy that was begun in "The Geometry of Sisters", the author's previous book. Pell goes off to Capri to find her mother, who had abandoned the girls when they were small children. Pell thought she knew the story, but of course, she only knew the bare, unadorned skeleton of the story. I found the beginning very slow moving because the author had to reiterate everything that had happened in the previous book. I nearly put it down at one point, but I am glad that I continued reading. As the skeleton become more fleshed out, the story became so intriguing! The second half came together with the deep, family connections and history that Luanne Rice is so good at.
