This book read like a novel. Francis Gary Powers was a U2pilot for the CIA who got shot down flying over Russia. The government did not try to get him out until Power's father starting writing a Russian spy William Fisher in a US prison and Soviet Prime Minister Nikita Khrushchev about a prisoner exchange. It was the height of the cold war and tensions were high between the uS and the Soviet Union. President Eisenhower could have had Powers released had he apologized to Khrushchev for flying spy planes over the Soviet Union Taking tons of pictures. BUt he was rude and nasty about it and then President Kennedy who did no better with the situation.Believe me the prayers of Gary Powers parents were heard and his fathers actions got him freed. The US government buried it's head in the sand. No wonder the Cold War went on for another20 + Years. This is a superb book.
