This is my first Kingsbury book. She is far and away one of the best writers in the Christian romance genre, and this book is a page-turner. I enjoyed the characters, for the most part, especially those who genuinely struggled with the life-shaping events described in the summary. Emily, the daughter, is what many writers call a "Mary Sue": she lacks noteworthy flaws and her faith is perfect. I also felt that the resolution was a little too easy, but perhaps the rest of the series deals with the obstacles that realistically should have interrupted the rush to this book's happy ending. I still recommend this book, and I enjoyed Kingsbury's elegant and emotional writing enough that I will probably pick up another book from this series or one of her others in the near future.
