My mother read this and said it was awful. And, "why did I keep reading it?" If I don't like a book, I just stop reading it. I tell my students that, too. I think that's the problem with reading today. Many boys hate to read because they think they have to read. When they borrow books from my classroom library, I tell them that if they don't like it or if it's too hard, to just come back and get another book. And they usually do. I guess my mother keeps thinking the book is going to get better. Trust your first instinct. Not a good review but, the book was autographed by Sandra!
