This book is not as well-written as I expected from a Charles Rivers Editors book. One of the most important things I learned was that Sephardic Jews lived on the Iberian Peninsula (Portugal and Spain). 'Sephardic' is Hebrew for Spain.
Maimonides was a medieval philosopher who leaned heavily on Plato's and Aristotle's reasoning and logic theories. In turn, he became the basis for much of the modern thought regarding philosophy.
After Maimonides' father and merchant brother died, he gave up his studies to earn a living as a physician. However, he continued to study and create ideas about God and how Jews should live. He was Saladin's physician and a man of note.
Little is shared about Maimonides' life and family; perhaps only a little has survived medieval history. However, he is recognized for the large body of work he produced during his lifetime. Even today, his writings are studied.
