First of all i had bounced back and forth if i wanted to read this or not--i decided to give it a try. It was the right choice. This was wonderful! It was written by a grandmother at 65 who lived in Decatur, Illinois. She died in 1952 shortly after this was published and it has been reprinted several times since. Her story takes place in 1900 when life was much slower paced but none the less exciting. It is also based very closely on the people she knew or lived with and just changed their names. If this is all true--what a lovely and fun life. The simple pleasures of life was based around. food and company. Neighbors and taking care of business and home. Times when you had 2 good outfits of clothing the best was used for both weddings and funerals and the next best was for church. Wives were known for their ability to cook or bake, (or the lack of ability), and a rival was serious business. I very much liked slowing down for a day or so and enjoying this read.
