If you a enjoy a traditional Scotland Yard murder mystery, introduce yourself to this author. Malice in the Highlands is the first book in a series that changed settings, book by book. I have no interest in either salmon fishing or whiskey drinking, but I found myself engaged by both subjects in the hands of a skillful writer. The descriptions of the Scottish Highlands in this novel are first rate and the characters are well drawn. Not a book for every reader, but if English-detective whodunits are your pleasure this is definitely a series to add to your list. Presumably there will be no future Erskine Powell books beyond the ones published between 1998 and 2008. "Graham Thomas" was the pseudonym of Gordon Kosakoski, a biologist, husband, and father, as well as a talented writer, chef, and fisherman, who lived in British Columbia and passed away at a relatively young age from a blood disease.
