This is a great historical depiction of an early American era; where both the high points and low points of early US/Mexican governments reacted in ways no one imagined they would have, to a culture which they did not understand . The back and forth peace/wars, between the Apaches and the new and unknown whites/Mexicans is exposed as a series of mistrust and uncertainty. This book definitely depicts the human pride issues which drive so many of the conflicts. This is a great read but if you are looking for a novel this it is not. This book would be a great read for those interested is early American -Mexican history; this book should be required in every high school American history class,
