So, after the third or fourth time reading this, I finally liked it okay.

Jared is whiny, self-centered, and dense. But, he get's his training from Daemon Sadi and eventually becomes a pretty decent man. The Grey Lady and the others are all interesting, with neat back stories.

Definitely not as in-depth as the original black jewels trilogy, The Invisible Ring at least gives the reader an idea of what the Realm of Terreille was like several centuries before the Trilogy began.

With all of Ms. Bishop's books I feel I learn a bit more about the world of the Blood. For that alone it is worth reading this story. And, after reading "The Shadow Queen," I felt it was really necessary to re-read this one because of everyone mentioned in TSQ. People who loved the Trilogy will be happy about the Daemon cameos. Fans of Saetan, however, will be disappointed. Lucivar is only mentioned in passing, too.

All in all, I finally saw the merit in this book. The first two copies of this book I had, however, I was happy to post. The third copy, however, I think I will now keep.
