Betty (justanothersahm) - reviewed Doesn't grab me like the Demon series did. on
Helpful Score: 7
I ordered this one based 100% on my enjoyment of the Demon series (Jacob, Elijah, etc...).
Right away I had a bad feeling as there was a mini glossery in the front. It bugs me to have to decipher meanings & pronounciations while I'm reading. The occasional endearment is okay, especially when it is obvious what it means, but I truly had to flip back once to look something up because I didn't know what the heck it meant.
I also found myself skimming a whole lot of sex scenes. Way more than I found in the Demon series. The story would have been just as good, perhaps better, with at least 10-15 less pages of sex scenes. Don't get me wrong, some of it truly had a purpose - to explain about the 'Dweller culture, but a lot of it was just gratuitous.
All in all, it was an interesting story. The 'Dwellers live in a completely different type of world than the Demons & Vampires with various 'Scapes' (dreamscape, nightscape, realscape, etc...) so there are a lot of explanations & backstory. The author does a good job of keeping things moving even during these explanations so you don't feel bogged down with information.
I do think it is worth reading & will certainly read the next one to see what is going on with Ashla & Trace plus the other characters.
3 Stars from me.
