The CEO of the American Enterprise Institute harks back to the founding fathers in making his points. He offers some specific ideas on how, emphasis on how, Americans can work together at the end of his book.
In the book, "you will find cutting-edge research from neuroscience, social science, history, and philosophy. You will meet the most visionary leaders in politics, business, media, and academia. I will show that without a molecule of mushy moderation, people can become not just warriors for their point of view, but healers in their communities. You will see why the current model of contemptuous leadership is a losing proposition in the long run, as well as why better, not less, disagreement holds the key to greater harmony." We need to get out of our comfortable cocoon and spurn contempt, instead 'disagree better, be part of a healthy competition of ideas.' The author challenges readers to 'go find someone â¬with whom you disagree; listen thoughtfully; and treat him or her with respect and love. The rest will flow natually from there. Think of it as missionary work."
