She doesn't write badly - just simply. The plot isn't bad - just simplistic. The whole thing was so easy to figure out that by page 50 I could predict the relationships & results. One thing which bothered me is that it read exactly like a romance novel, only the romance didn't involve the main character and there wasn't any strong male character. Really a woman's book. It's not that I didn't enjoy parts of it, it's that I felt like I'd lost many hours of my life on what is essentially a 2nd rate 'Lifetime' movie. The number of times that some small part of the story was revealed & our heroine then dashed off to tell X, and then phoned Y, and then responded to Z, and then went back to talk to Y again, who send her to X...I think you get the idea. Not offensive, not boring exactly, just pointless.
