This book is the much anticipated sequel to Chapmans A Simple Amish Christmas. Annie is now a newlywed and pregnant with their first boppli, but shes not the only one! Leah, her best friend, and sister-in-law (although Leah is married to Annies brother, shes more like a sister than an in-law) is also newly married to Adam and expecting their first boppli as well. It was interesting to see the difference in these two couples.

Couple #1 is very much in love, but then the pregnancy is a complicated one and the mom-to-be is moody and emotional. Shes also insecure and doesnt understand why her husband gets so annoyed all the time. He works so much that she barely sees him and when she does, they tend to argue all the time. The husband is a wonderful man, but lacks maturity and has trouble communicating properly what hes thinking. This only leads to frustration for this Amish couple. Being pregnant is supposed to be a joyful time, but this couple is far from rejoicing. Will they be ready when the baby arrives? Will they be able to get past their differences? How will this pregnancy affect their faith?

Couple #2 is also very much in love, but they have a much better understanding of one another. He is in tune with her without saying anything, he is patient and considerate of her during her pregnancy, and most of all he is both affectionate and sensitive of her needs. This mom-to-be is fully enjoying her life as a new bride and she glows with the blessing of her husband and pregnancy. She also is struggling with fulfilling a task before her best friends baby is due, but she has strength shes not even aware of in helping her sister become a new mom.

When Leah is hospitalized during her pregnancy, she gets the rest she needs and learns to focus more on Gods will than the circumstances around her. As Annie decides what steps to take with the quilting, she never leaves Leahs side. Together, these precious friends/sisters see the hand of God and discover something much more important in this task than they couldve imagined.

Theres a minor character in the story named Mrs. Grant, which is also my moms name, so I considered that very nice!

As always, Chapman does a brilliant job of mixing both the Amish and Englischers in this story and there are even a few characters from the first book that make appearances in the sequel! The way the Amish come together to help one another is both an enhancement and a treasure added into the plot that just makes the story that much more precious. I also really loved what Annie and Samuel name their baby, it was the perfect ending in another beautiful story! Readers who enjoy Chapmans work will be utterly satisfied with The Christmas Quilt and the miracle of the season itself.
