I read a lot and often don't remember the details of one book to another, they all sort of blend together after awhile, except for my favorite reads. This is not a favorite read, but I won't forget it easily! Strange book! Some of the strangeness has to do with the language; it was written in Ireland and I am not familiar with words or terms they use (although I am Irish!). I don't know what a ceiling sun is (sky light?), a bowerbird, sellotape (scotch tape?), toadflax, furze, a lay-by, plus many others, and I guess you get your money from a post office there, not a bank like here. Footnotes telling what the words translates into would have been helpful. Basically a story about a year (spill = spring, simmer = summer, falter = fall, wither = winter) in the life of a recluse man and a dog (he gets in spring of the year). The story is not a usual story, which adds to the strangeness! But I would recommend reading it, especially if you love/like dogs.
