This is the best sort of forced marriage where two ambitious people initially agree to lead separate lives only to have a mutual affection shape their single-minded pursuits into realistic, love-inspired compromise. I can't resist a vulnerable hero, so Ben's illegitimacy and his family dynamic worked like a charm; Allysa's awareness of Ben as her husband gave me good shivers, then a surprising reconciliation, a nasty wager turned ugly, and the delicious sexual tension from unfulfilled desire--yum! Fun reading at 3.5 stars.
