I also thought Jane Green did a great job of Jemima's mental state before and after she lost weight. The novel is based in a suburb of London and the main character, Jemima, is a columnist with a small, local paper, and one hundred pounds overweight. The story revolves around a co-worker, Ben, who is doing his time at the local paper before he moves on to bigger and better things. The book addresses self esteem issues, internet dating and the treatment of large people in our society. Jemima J also discusses when weight loss is taken to extremes and becomes an obsession. Jemima takes us on a whirlwind trip to Los Angeles with her internet romance gym owner, Brad, for whom she loses all the weight. Inside, she is still fat and questions her new dalliance--with good reason! The book has some great twists and I read it in a day. This is one of those books that you look up at the clock, it's three in the morning, and you wish you you could keep reading & finish it! Enjoy...
