This book threw me off a bit... Eve wasn't the same Eve; that said, I think she has matured: she didn't throw herself into a case and allow herself to suffer at the hands of the case. Another "twist" in this book, is that there wasn't any real flashback to her past or Roarke's past. It was kind of refreshing. As much as I love each and every single book in this series (and won't trade them...sorry... love them too much), this one just felt different. It was a mature kind of different; it wasn't the template that some of the ones before had felt like they had been molded into. I kinda missed the old, bossy, take no crap, Eve but I guess we all have to grow up eventually. I mean, she was actually NICE to Peabody and almost nice to Summerset! :)

The thing I DIDN'T like was the lack of our old friends; many of the characters took a back seat, if they were in the book at all. In all fairness, each was "there" but it really lacked the different interactions that we are all so used to and Charles/Louise were only mentioned, not even seen. Lastly, the romantic scenes were NOT up to par of Roarke and Eve. It was a little disappointing when I was looking to catch up with her hottie husband! :)

All in all, it just felt flat. If you are a faithful fan, you will still love the book. If you haven't read any in this series, don't start here. Go back to the beginning: Naked In Death...
