While this is a fairly scholarly book, there is no bibliography and only a handful of footnotes. The author has been well connected for the last twenty years and, as well as can be expected, considers the state of the younger generation at the beginning of the 21st C. He suggests what the Hip Hop Generation could achieve in the future. Part One lays out the 'crisis' in African-American culture and Part Two 'confronts' Black youth's need to carry forward in their own generation's manner the work of the CR movement. The considerable acceptance of Black youth's culture is an opportunity.
Tupac and Mike Tyson, questioning old attitudes, the Million Man March, etc. are discussed. I especially like the chapter on Black gansta films of the 1990s.
