This was an amazing followup to Black Wings. We are still following agent of death, Madeline Black while she discovers what she is capable of. She is the daughter of fallen angel, Azazel so she has unique abilities, if only she could figure them out. Her father is allies with Lucifer and sent Gabriel (another fallen angel) to be her bodyguard. Of course, they fell in love but their love is forbidden as Azazel and/or Lucifer will kill Gabriel if they ever consummate the relationship. So Maddy has other men falling all over her, her human boss, JB who is part Faerie and her fiance, Nathaniel who was forced on her by her father.

In addition to all her personal issues, Maddy also has been ordered by Lucifer to play diplomat with the Faerie court. She and Nathaniel are going as a team to re-establish relations between Lucifer and Queen Amarantha (think Anita Blake and Meredith Gentry combined dealing with the Faerie court). Now you know that something will go terribly wrong. Well not just something, everything goes wrong and Maddy is furiously two-stepping to save her life and Gabriel's. Oh and let's not forget the other parties involved in this political nightmare: the Wolves (whom she has allied against Lucifer's wishes), Samiel (who is trying to kill her), Focalor (who is trying to depose Lucifer) and Antares (her half-brother who hates her because she is Azazel's heir and he is not).

But of course Maddy survives all the dangers and lives to have another agent of death adventure. I can't wait.
