This was a so-so book. I normally love Susan Johnson. She's one of the few authors that actually footnotes her books. It makes you feel as if you're not reading a romance novel but some history book with a love story instead.
However, of the "Duras" books, this is my least favorite. The two books about Teo and Andre's children are much better. This books has too many details about troop movements and battle strategies than character details that I almost found it very easy to not finish the novel.
