I came across Hellforged last year at All Things Urban Fantasy. I was so intrigued by it that I added it to my must-read list right away. This was my first time to read Holzners work; sadly I havent read Deadtown, the first book of the Deadtown series. I try not to read books out of order if I can help it but this one was definitely worth breaking my rule.
If youre looking for action then you will love the plot in Hellforged. A demon that Vicki knows all too well is entering her dreamscapes. Zombies in Deadtown that make friendly with Vicki find themselves in a sticky spot, finding out just how much Deadtown lives up to its name. After several strange deaths, Vicki hightails it to see her Aunt Mab, who she hopes can help her get rid of the demon once and for all.
Holzner tells a fantastic story with a perfect mix of human and otherworldly creatures. The plot was electric. At times I did find that the pace slowed more than I cared for. Vicki is one of those heroines that you cant help but get immersed in. There were action scenes strategically placed throughout the novel, giving the plot a boost at just the right times. There are so many layers to Holzners characters and I cant wait to see where in Deadtown she takes us next!
