This book is based on the Book of Esther in the bible. It does NOT read like the bible. it is a novel story - fictional, but based upon the every-deay lives of the poeple of those times. It is really neat to read how they lived their lives day-to-day, kind of how we live our lives day-to-day, but we don't know how they lived back then, and this author did excelllent research to learn how they did live day-to-day! For those of you who love Historical Biblical Fiction, this is one of 'the' books to read! It starts off with Esther surviving a tortuous event, and her uncle takes her in under his wing as his daughter for her protection. He hides her Jewish heritage for her own protection/her life. It explains how she grew up, how the people and the city was back then in those times. She becomes a chosen one for one of the King's wives. It is SO neat to read how they groom the girls for the King to pick one of the girls to become his wife. After she becomes his wife, she does something, and I won't say what, to save the Jewish people, her heritage! She is a brave and smart woman! If she was not chosen as the King's wife, I would hate to see how history would have changed! I still say the best part of these books is the detailing of every day life as we don't it! We are taught how they did used to live back then day-to-day! It IS hard to put down! A MUST READ for those who love Biblical Historical Romance, or even for those who love to learn how people lived back in those days! Enjoy this book! Taking the time to read it is priceless! It does NOT read like the bible. It reads like a story. An excellent story! Again, hard to put down!
