I read the first two books in this series many years ago, and I remember enjoying them quite a bit. Apparently, my tastes have changed over the years. Either that, or the author totally blew this one. Several times, I almost purged it from Mt. TBR ... and each time, I reminded myself that I specifically thought the series was good enough to move forward. But this book seemed very confused. Was it about the missing friend? Or the abusive ex-boyfriend? Or maybe the best friend's relationship issues? Persia is dealing with all of this, in addition to running a beauty goods store/spa with her Aunt, coaching a friend/employee to overcome her hydrophobia, teaching self-defense classes, attending a major holiday gala, and telling the chief of police how to do his job. This is an example of "feel-good fiction" ... where everything is resolved to the best possible result, even if the resolution is non-sensical and unrealistic. Overall, the story was predictable and just meh.
