I just glanced at it (I wish someone who knew the subject would post a short review) and my main criticism is that all the models are gals--wouldn't guys be thrilled if someone knitted for them? As did my mom, when I was six years old and and in second grade; we were in Hawthorne, Nevada--a wonderful sweater for Christmas, 1953. She was working full time, as was Dad, but there was no radio or TV in that rather remote place. I imagine knitters have more entertainment options today....
The authors is experienced. The book claims to be 'accessible to knitters of all skill levels' and for each of the two dozen articles includes instructions on obtaining the proper finished size, what needles to use, notions needed, and row by row instructions by PATT panel row, back, sleeve, etc. etc.
There is a small diagram for each and for the thistle pattern, for example, a chart (1page) so one may get the colors in place. See pp. 148-149 for 'Knitting Know How' if needed.
No index, but there is a list of abbreviations. There is a list of firms, one per country, with the heading 'Stockists.' The book is well bound, printed on coated stock, and originally published in the UK.
