When Dr. Jake Elliott watches a young woman walk into a Safeway and single-handedly waste the place, he decides hes in love. Amy Klasse is not having a good day; shes just lost her job on TV (as Lulu the Clown) to a dancing rooster. While mulling over her misfortune, Amy doesnt notice that she has created one disaster after another in the grocery store.
Jake notices that Amy, as she emerged from her red car, locked her purse and keys in the vehicle. He offers to pay for her groceries if she will cook a meal for him. When Amy starts to turn him down, the grocery clerks give a character reference for the good vet.
Hearing Amys tale of woe, Jake promptly offers her a job as receptionist. When conferring with his partner, the two men wonder if they can afford a receptionist. Before long, they wonder how they worked without a receptionist/organizer; Amy is a whiz.
This is a cute story with several laugh-out-loud moments. It also has more plot than usual, for an Evanovich book. This is a very quick read. 3.5 stars
