This consist of two books: one by Miller and another by McDavid.

"Just Kate" by Miller: This story had so much potential with some interesting characters, but Miller seemed to decide to take a cop out and filled it with lukewarm sex scenes instead. Wish more time was spent actually developing the relationship between Kate and Sean. They had some real obstacles to overcome but they just kind of glanced over them. It was this way with any conflicts with other characters as well.

This is an ongoing complaint of Miller's I have: The children in her stories are just window dressing. They are perfectly behaved despite whatever hell they have been through and seems to always leave at the perfect time so the main characters can have sex.

Despite it all it did keep my attention and I finished the book. Because of that I would say it was an okay book but definitely not her best work. I was disappointed simply because it could have been so much better. 2 1/2 stars.

"His Only Wife" by Cathy McDavid: This is my first book by McDavid. Great characters but the plot lacked action which is ironic because Gage is a modern day action hero as a wilderness firefighter. Both Aubrey and Gage have some cool backstories. They were ex-spouses, going through a career crisis in a way and re-evaluating their lives. Most of the time when the plot is slow, clever dialogue will pick up the slack but unfortunately it was lacking here. Most of the book was dedicated to Aubrey diagnosing ailments after ailments. It read like an AARP ad. I forced my way through 1/3 of the book and gave up because I got fed up with hearing everything that can go wrong with your body. The book was boring which was too bad because like I said the characters were intriguing. 1 star.
