Book Review of The Gatekeeper

The Gatekeeper

Couple weeks ago I decided that I'd much rather watch an action thriller, especially one with lots of manly gunplay and fighting, than read one. So here I am, reading another one, go figure. I was struggling to get through Anya Seton's FOXFIRE (still haven't) when I read a glowing review of THE GATEKEEPER from my favorite indie bookstore. Then another. Then the book itself dropped onto the circ desk of the library where I volunteer. It seemed like a sign so I checked it out. And thoroughly enjoyed it, from first to (almost) last as it doesn't take itself too seriously. Loved the sense of humor, loved Des and the concept of gatekeeper, liked the rather implausible conspiracy plot, didn't love the ending but it didn't spoil the book for me. Anyway lots of action, snarky dialogue, an interesting new hero, a plot very loosely incorporating current news items, and not too much emphasis on the weapons details. Pretty sure it will make my top ten for this year.
