I did not get the sense that this was a thought provoking mystery about who the Crimson Petal is and who the White is, because surely everyone is both?
It was more of a raunchy look at the various ways people use and punish each other and themselves, starting with ill education and ending in abuse.
The story began and ended very intimately and I wished the author had kept up the reader's personal involvement throughout the book instead of at select moments.
