Book Review of The Mysterious Island (Classics Illustrated)

The actual story part of this book was so-so. Too much narration for a graphic novel format. I don't know that it could be better done in such a short form, though.

However, the discussion at the back about the book--that was fascinating and excellent. It was aimed more at kids, but kept my interest quite well as they brought up differences in the views of the time when the book was written and nowadays, and examined the characters. It also filled in some gaps in the graphic novel where it skimmed over parts.

If my son were a bit older I'd probably keep this for him; use the first part to interest him in the second. Since he's not even reading yet, though, I think I'll just have to remember the series for the future. :)
