Ed Loy has been working as a private detective in the US, but the death of his father brings him home to Ireland. While there, an old acquaintance hires him to look into the disappearance of her husband. As Loy's investigation continues, the body count increases and it becomes clear that the death of his father and the disappearance of his friend's husband are linked.

Parts of this book are very appealing: it has a great opening line, and some of the descriptions of Ireland are wonderful. However, I found this book confusing to read because there are a lot of characters; IMHO an excessive amount. I had to make a list of each character's name and a brief summary of his or her relationships to the others. Reading this book was a lot of work! I would recommend this book to people with an interest in Ireland and crime fiction, but not to the casual reader.
