Lucy and Stephen meet in college, and begin hooking up. Generally this occurs when he is with someone else, and so begins a pattern which lasts for years: he treats her like poop, and her self-image decays each time.

Reading this book is like watching a train wreck, in that it is not enjoyable but you cannot look away. It is well-written in the sense that Stephen comes across as a total sociopath. I don't understand what his charm is though; his nicknames for his girlfriends are really bad. ("Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" for Lucy, "Alice in Wonderland" for Alice...... you get the picture). The revelation at the end may be a surprise for Lucy, but it isn't for the reader. Meh.
