Jimmy is different from other children his age, labeled "slow," "simple" and "special," a term he dislikes unless used by a family member. While he may not always understand conversations, he can sometimes repeat them verbatim, as he does for his lawyer dad in a criminal trial. His testimony, which wins the case, sets off a series of events that will change life forever. Rich in the Southern setting and spiritual content (Jimmy see's "Watchers," an equivalent of angels) the story unfolds through his innocent eyes. Readers will watch him cope with a world beyond sometimes beyond his comprehension, share his love of his family, and wonder, from our "non-special" viewpoint, if life might not better off "simple."
