Interesting tale of warfare in a part of WWII you might not have ever heard about. If you believe that MacArthur was a great General, you need to read this book. He comes across as an arrogant uninformed "leader" who sacrificed thousands of men due to his stupidity. He could have prevented a terrible waste of soldiers with different tactics (like starving out the enemy instead of a frontal attack). In press releases he made himself sound like he was leading his troops but never ever got close to the front and then lied to make himself look good. The heroism of these National Guard troops is astounding. This book needs to be made into a motion picture.
