This story is based on 3 (real) families and how WW1 affects them. Their lives intermingle; the rich American family; the rich Russian family and a family of serfs.
One thing I really like is you don't have to be a history buff to enjoy this book. Martha Hall Kelly is now one of my favorite authors.
