I've read a bunch of occult series by other authors, and in comparison, "You Slay Me" just falls flat. The main character, Aisling, is clueless and I'm guessing she's also crazy; she talks to herself and all the time, naively puts her trust in random strangers & demons, blindly jumps into dangerous situations, and prioritizes her career before saving the world. The story is also ridiculous with every convenience popping-up whenever Aisling needs it, and very little detective work (all she does is run around town asking suspects "did you do it?").

Equally irritating is the author's writing style (which is juvenile). The murders are not graphic or gruesome, and Aisling is never in any real peril. Seriously, I've read R.L. Stine books with more grit and suspense. And the author tries too hard to be funny. If you were expecting witty humor like Stephanie Plum, you're going to be very dissapointed. Probably the best laugh is over Aisling constantly picking up demondog poop. I mean, seriously? That's the best you can do with comedy, Katie MacAlister?

At best, "You Slay Me" is like a PG-13 version of the Anita Blake series. If you're a young adult, you might find this book mildly entertaining. But if you're over the age of 14 and looking for a demonslayer with a harder edge, try the Dante Valentine series instead.
