First off, the book is way too long. Then, there are numerous sub-plots and assorted minor characters. Finally, there are digressions - some of which are weird.
While the writing is interesting and the main characters well fleshed out, overall, the novel isn't worth the reader's effort.
Perhaps - with major editing - this work could be salvageable.
