You can be really hit or miss with Dean Koontz. Some of his books are my favorites, Watchers, Lighting, Intensity, could not put them down and have re-read them a few times and have even re-bought a couple. But, then you get clunkers like this one. I think it it when he tries to be funny. Everything about the characters is over the top, and the humor does not work. In the story the couple have a 6 year old genius, that is working on "things you wouldn't understand", once when they are being chased by a gun toting outlaw, they ask the boy, "can I carry your project for you Milo? No. What is it? Something. What something? Something." It goes on and on. Skip this one.
