This perplexing novel certainly makes an impression. It could be said to describe any number of bureaucratic processes familiar today, and apparently way back in the early 20th century as well, as this book was written around 1914 (but not published until after the author's death a few years later).
I like the German title better, which I think should definitely be translated as "The Process" rather than The Trial (perhaps even "the Ordeal), the former denoting a legal proceeding, but it's also a clever play on words, even in English.
