This cookbook is a walk down memory lane, with such recipes as Swiss Steak and Chocolate Mayonnaise Cake. The book opened with a variety drinks from the 1940s. Initially, this book reminds readers that the 1940s were a time of rationing (during World War II). Thus, people made do with what they had or could obtain with ration coupons.

Although there were no photos except for the cover, this book deserves an 'excellent' rating because each recipe starts with ideas to change the recipe or adapt it to vegan or gluten-free eating. The author also might suggest different spices to change the taste. There is nutritional information and cooking/prep times, and servings.
