I've been hearing great things about Kristin Hannah for years but I never seemed to get around to reading one of her books. So I am late to the party as this is my first by this author. It is quite a wonderful book but it can be rough going at times. It is a coming of age story that takes us back to the mid 70s era. I was a teenager in the 70s so I could relate to the times. I enjoyed the nostalgia. But it is also a story of survival, trauma, family, friends, community, wilderness and so much more. It is mostly a story of love, the meaning of "for better or for worse" and how much we are willing to sacrifice for those we genuinely love.
