One of Mary Higgins Clark's better novels.
'The Owl' is out to eliminate everyone he feels embarassed him as a teenager who was homely and stuttered. He has successfully killed 4 of the 6 women whom he has targeted, the last 2 will be attending a reunion being given to honor the men and women who have become successful and famous since their graduation from Stonecroft Academy, the private school they all attended.
The identity of 'The Owl' is part of the suspense; is it the famous playwriter, the successful real-estate agent, the movie producer, the stand-up comic, or the child psychiatrist? At one moment or another they could all appear to be guilty. Dr. Jean Sheridan, one of the last 2 women still alive, has been sent ominous messages, someone knows about the daughter she gave up for adoption 19 years earlier. What does the person want? As she begins to delve into who is sending the messages, she begins to suspect they are related to the deaths of the other women.
Ms. Clark doesn't disappoint.
